Student Teacher Affiliate Group

STAG was created to raise the level of teaching among student teachers who are interested in pursuing an Associateship Diploma and becoming a registered music teacher.

WHO CAN JOIN ?

  • piano students with at least grade 8 piano who are currently studying with a teacher (their teacher does not have to be a member of ARMTA)
  • students who are currently teaching or intending to teach
  • ALL AGES! (teenagers to seniors)

WHAT DOES STAG DO?

We meet monthly to discuss, socialize, get involved and learn (both about teaching, and his/her own studies).

WHERE ARE MEETINGS HELD ?

We meet monthly in the homes of our advisors. This year, the meetings alternated North and South locations (Lake Newell Cr. SE and Toronto Cr. NW). Please note, the locations will change in the Fall 2006.

WHY JOIN ?

  • get your name on the ARMTA list for teaching opportunities and related mail outs
  • meet with other teachers to socialize as well as learn from each other
  • learn from distinguished speakers

  • performance opportunities
  • LIBRARY: plenty of pedagogy books to borrow (example: Marianne Uzler's "The Well-Tempered Keyboard Teacher"), games/teaching aids, Barbara Lister-Sink video: "Freeing the Caged Bird" on piano technique and Nelita True videos

WHEN ARE MEETINGS ?

Meetings are the third Sunday of each month from October to June month at 6:30pm. We'll let you know when the first meeting is!

HOW DO I JOIN?

Contact STAG presidents (e-mail stag@armta-calgary.com ). Show up at any meeting and attend with no obligation to join.

FYI Scholarships are available for students with high exam marks (theory and piano).
